
This post is about! you got the idea Operating systems; this is going to give you some overview regarding the various operating systems. And later on you will see a deep-down post of each operating system. I will cover the basics of the operating system in this post and there are some categories as mobile, tablets, and desktops and laptops.
Definition: An Operating System (OS) is an interface between a computer user and computer hardware. An operating system is a software which performs all the basic tasks like file management, memory management, process management, handling input and output, and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers.
Types of Operating System:
- Microsoft Windows
- Macintosh or Mac OS
- Linux
I covered all the basics operating system which are used mostly world wide. Hence there are lots of Operating systems are available. Later on you will get to know about various OS related information, So stay tuned.
1. Microsoft Windows
Microsoft Windows was announced by Bill Gates on November 10, 1983. Microsoft introduced Windows as a graphical user interface for MS-DOS, which had been introduced a couple of years earlier. It’s a series of graphical interface operating system developed marketed and sold by Microsoft. It has many versions since its launch latest one is windows 10 2004, now windows bringing the October update which has many features.
Since 1985 Microsoft Windows has been in one form or another and remains the most common home and office software operating system.
2. Macintosh or Mac OS
The classic Mac OS is the original Macintosh operating system that was introduced in 1984 alongside the first Macintosh. And remained in primary use on Macs until the introduction of Mac OS X in 2001.
Apple released the original Macintosh on January 24, 1984; its early system software was partially based on the Lisa OS and the Xerox PARC Alto computer. Which former Apple CEO Steve Jobs previewed. It was originally named “System Software”, or simply System. Mac OS Big Sur (version 11.0) is the seventeenth and next major release of Mac OS, Apple Inc.’s operating system for Macintosh computers. It is the successor to Mac OS Catalina (version 10.15)
Apple’s Mac OS is running on Apple laptops and desktops as the success of the popular operating system OS X.
4. Linux OS
it’s a free operating system unlike Windows which has to be purchased. Other benefits are being open source anyone with programming knowledge can modified it. Once installed in your system no antivirus required the next is a highly secure system.
The flavors of Linux OS is Fedora CentOS Red hat. There is one term UNIX and Unix is a commercial product whereas Linux is a freeware. Those who say Linux do not actually change for Linux but for the support they provide. There are few minor differences between UNIX and LINUX we will discuss it about in the detail post.
Conclusion
This is just an overview of OS not mentioned any technicality of each OS. For starters it can really help to understand the operating systems.
